For our family, Peter's Port has always been more than just a shack by the sea. It's a place that has shaped memories, conversations, and quiet moments for over 30 years.
Long before it was ever shared with guests, this was where we came to slow down, breathe out, and reconnect — with each other and with the beach right in front of us.
If you've ever travelled around the Yorke Peninsula or spent time on South Australia's coastline, you'll understand that some beaches are simply different. Black Point is one of those places.
I've travelled the world, but this stretch of coast remains my favourite. It's calm, beautiful, and quietly magical in a way that's hard to explain unless you've experienced it yourself.
A Shack, Not a Showpiece
Peter's Port isn't a luxury resort, and it was never meant to be.
Over the years, we've watched larger, newer homes appear along the coastline, and like many families, we've had the conversation about renovating or rebuilding. But we always come back to the same place.
This shack is simple — and that's exactly the point.
It's a place where shoes come off at the door, sand gets tracked through the house, and wet towels are part of daily life. There are no fragile finishes or precious furniture to worry about.
It's comfortable, practical, and welcoming. For us, it's our castle — a place where kids, grandkids, friends, and family can relax without feeling like they need to be careful.
The large front deck looks straight out over the water, giving you a clear view of the beach while still being close enough to keep an eye on everyone below. It's the kind of setup that encourages you to sit, stay a little longer, and let the day unfold naturally.
Why Peter's Port Exists
My parents bought this property more than three decades ago as an escape from the busy life of running pubs around the Yorke Peninsula.
Whenever there was a rare day off or a quiet weekend, this is where we came. Most of our holidays were spent here — fishing, swimming, talking, and doing very little else.
Now, we're happy to share that experience with others.
Peter's Port exists for people who want to step away from noise and distraction. There are no pubs nearby, no nightlife, and no pressure to be anywhere at a certain time.
It's just a shack, a beach, and the people you choose to bring with you.
Who It's Really For
Peter's Port is for people who value time over things.
It suits families who want to make memories with their kids, couples looking for a quiet escape, and friends who want to reconnect without interruption.
It's for early mornings, long conversations, shared meals, and days that revolve around the tide rather than the clock.
Many of my favourite visits are still the ones where I come down with close friends once a year. We cook together, fish together, laugh a lot, and leave feeling lighter than when we arrived.
The Moments You Remember
A stay at Peter's Port isn't about ticking off activities — it's about moments.
Morning light coming through the front room as you wake to the sound of waves. Sitting on the deck with a coffee while the water stays glassy and calm.
Kids paddling, friends chatting, someone trying their luck fishing straight off the deck. Canoes drifting along the shoreline. A short walk down to the point with a beer in hand as the sun drops lower.
There's nothing quite like catching fresh fish or crabs, cooking them up, and eating together on the deck while the sky changes colour. These are the moments that stay with you long after you've left.
A Place to Unwind
Peter's Port is, at its heart, a place to slow down.
It's not polished or perfect — and that's exactly why it works. It invites you to relax, to be present, and to enjoy the simple comforts that really matter.
If that sounds like the kind of stay you've been looking for, we'd love for you to experience it for yourself.
